This small town garden began as an uninteresting slab of lawn with a trampoline. Awkwardly shaped and awkwardly sloping across the main line of vision, the lawn was reshaped to make a false perspective and the rest was terraced to create a small seating area hidden from the house terrace.

The illusion was created that the garden could only be entered by crossing a wide timber bridge over a brimming pond. The lavish scale of Tibetan rhubarb and arum lilies in the foreground damp border contrasted with the brittle gauze of drought tolerant plants beyond.
