The clients were very interested in grass plantings and contemporary sculptural pottery. The original brief was for a waterfeature but this grew as work progressed.
The water feature - reflecting rather than moving water - straddles the change in level between terrace and lawn and is larger than might be expected in this setting. It wraps around the house and has a plinth for a large glacial boulder supported so that it appears to be floating. Beyond is a planting of large ornamental grasses.
At the far end of the garden is a deep shady fern garden. The client did not believe anything could be done with this area as it lay beneath a neighbours ash. As well as ferns it includes large clumps of Rodgersia, Ligularia, Digitalis and a mass display of spring bulbs.
